OCTOBER
Dear philoptochos Members,
As the seasons change during the awesome splendor of a Colorado Autumn, there is comfort in the small things that fill our days, a cup of tea, slippers on our feet, our favorite sweater draped on a chair, and the special days in our community life that bring us all together. As the days grow shorter, we prioritize our time around our interests and values, making space for the people that matter to us most, as well as those that need us. We hope that you will take a minute to go through the calendar posted on this website and mark your appointment keeper with the events and dates that best appeal to you in those moments when you are hungry for community. An additional schedule of events for our seniors will soon be added to the mix so always check back to see what’s new. We have some very fun things in store!
THE GOLD DOME HOLIDAY MARKET
We are very pleased and excited at the number and variety of vendors that will be participating in our Gold Dome Holiday Market on Friday and Saturday, October 24th and 25th. The marketplace will be a feast for the eyes and a wonderful place to find unique items for the special people on your holiday gift lists. We will also have a Kafenio for a cup of coffee or a delicious spot of lunch. A special place for children to write to Santa while you shop will also be on site! Our 2025 inaugural year promises to memorable, a tale to tell your grandchildren, as this event is sure to prosper and expand in the years ahead. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
AGORA AT THE GOLD DOME HOLIDAY MARKET
For the next three weeks, we will be collecting items that are too good to give to Goodwill but no longer have a use in our homes, for resale at our Gold Dome Holiday Market ‘Agora’. The Agora booth at the marketplace will be comprised of high-quality vintage items and collectables that will take a special place in the new homes they are purchased for. If you have any china, silver, crystal, linens, holiday décor pieces, jewelry, or accessories that you value and no longer need, please bring them to the Philoptochos booth for donation on Sundays from October 5 to October 19th. If you are unable to bring your items on a Sunday, please call Liberty Matzakos at 303-912-7899 to set a time that best suits you for drop off at the church. We have already collected some lovely things, and think this booth will be a special place among the many wonderful booths that will comprise our market. The proceeds from the sale of these high- quality vintage goods will support the good works of Philoptochos and we are happy to provide letters of acceptance for your accountants to register at tax time.
NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION ON OCTOBER 12, 2025 12:30 PM
We’ll be hosting an orientation meeting for new and existing members who may want a good review of the endeavors of our Philoptochos chapter. Please join us for a quick but fact filled meeting about the programs, events and outreach of our National, Metropolis and Local Philoptochos chapters. Every attendee will receive a handbook for future reference and a light lunch will be served. Call Christine with any questions at 720.524.4837.
Hebrew Education Alliance/Philoptochos cultural exchange
Our Philoptochos chapter met with the women of the Hebrew Education Alliance for an insightful day of fellowship and fun! Language meanings were exchanged, recipes were shared and a wonderful seminar was held regarding the iconography in our Cathedral. Many kind thank you notes were sent our way for the day. Thanks to all who took part!
GENERAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 14TH CANCELLED
There is no pressing business prior to the holiday market in October, so we are cancelling the General Meeting scheduled for October 14th. We will meet again following the holidays when business topics have accrued for discussion. A reminder will be sent out at a later date.
PHILOPTOCHOS CHAPTER 8010 GIFT TO MT. TABOR RETREAT CENTER
Our members have generously apportioned a onetime gift of $30,000 to the Mt Tabor Retreat Center of our Denver Metropolis for its further renovation and preparation to accept campers in 2026. This gift will be incorporated into the overall sum raised by the Assumption of the Theotokos Cathedral at the Western Night event on Saturday, October 5th. Our chapter looks forward to the use of the facility in the years to come for picnics and retreats!
Enjoy the season! Please come by the Philo Table on Sunday and say hello! We are always so happy to see you!
Love, Christine
