OCTOBER
Dear philoptochos Members,
As October begins, we can look forward to a time of stillness, a time to be indoors with our thoughts and to rest. Rest, sometimes, is the most productive thing we can do, giving our bodies the strength and stamina they require for a healthy, active life. I have learned that when I have the most on my calendar, I need to add “rest” to my task of duties. It honors my capacity to serve, to be present, and to respect the health that I’m blessed with.
The stillness also affords us a time to look back on where we have been with an eye to where we are going. As I reflect on the celebration of our Philoptochos chapter’s 90th year, I am moved by the stories of the many women who have given their time and talent to serve our community out of care for their fellow man, and respect for the tenets of Orthodoxy. From the first days of our inception, the women of our parish have put their faith into action, comforting those in need, strengthening the goals of our chapter, and enjoying the company of friends. It’s important to carry on the customs and ceremonies that lock us in time. We are individuals who foster the deepest aims of our mothers and grandmothers; service with honor, esteem for our church, and joy in our culture and beliefs. Please join us as we continue our rich history at the 90th Anniversary event on October 17th. The entire parish is welcome, and we thank and invite the men who have sacrificed family time to enable our work, as well. We hope that everyone will participate in honoring the service to Philoptochos of the women they love, and to reinforce the memory of those that have passed. Our collective presence will assure the for the continuation of our mission and the work of the generations to come.
