SEPTEMBER
Dear philoptochos Members,
The leaves will soon be turning the roads into golden paths of light. The cool blue of Autumn will fill the skies, and in its subtle chill, we will turn our attention back to the comforts of the indoors, preparing ourselves for the shift in season. For me, this is a time of gratitude, of savoring the blessings of family and friends, of relishing in the luxury of time to just be still, resting, reading, and considering the future with an open heart.
Beginning each day with gratitude is nurturing to the soul. When praying, seeking consideration for those in greater need puts our lives into the proper perspective. Our concerns may feel overwhelming at times, but compared to the flood victims in Nepal, the sick and suffering, the fires consuming homes all around the earth, our sanctuaries are huge gifts from God and must be accepted with humility and respect. We must bear the trials we are given with strength and poise ourselves to reach out where we are placed, seeing what is needed and acting as best we can.
Soon, the foliage will transform in its last burst of life into a beauty greater than it’s ever known. We harbor the same force within us, to exhibit our best selves in our individual splendor, soothing the landscape as it prepares for slumber before the winter’s snow.

Philoptochos 90th anniversary event planning
Members are invited to help sort through our archival treasures to prepare for our 90th Anniversary Event. Volunteers are needed to prepare our historic retrospective display and to help shape the celebration in October. Join us on September 12th @ 10:00 AM in the Annunciation Room to begin this joyous task.

Evangelia is a Mechanical Engineering student with an Aerospace focus a the Colorado School of Mines,starating her sophomore year this fall. In addition to her studies, angelia is active in faith related activities at the Cathedral with Young Adult League (YAL), and as the Communications Officer for Rooted in Faith, a campus Orthodox group. stretch & Balance Class
Join us for Stretch and Balance Class at 10:30 - 11:30 AM every week on Thursdays.
This class is sponsored by Devoted Health and there is no charge to participate. Wear comfortable clothes and give it a try. Our instructor Mia is a personal trainer that treats each participant as an individual client. We are so fortunate to be in her care. Beginners are always welcome!

LUNCH IN THE PARK Monday, September 21st 9:00 AM
Help us prepare a nutritious and delicious meal for homeless families in our community. We will meet at 9:00 AM in the kitchen and finish by 11:30, preparing a wonderful meal that will be delivered to Church in the City for distribution. The satisfaction of this service to the most in need is so rewarding.

Please keep Philoptochos and the Gold Dome Holiday Market in mind as you assess your possessions and clean out your closets and cabinets this fall. We welcome all your contributions to our VINTAGE TREASURES booth, and ask that you put them aside for our marketplace in December. We are seeking linens, crystal, china, silver, holiday decor, collectables, etc. We will begin collecting items in November. Your great taste will live another lifetime and the needs of the community will be better served with the proceeds. Thanks so much!
